Enrollment FAQs
General Enrollment Questions
-
How much does MPTCS cost?
There are no tuition costs to apply to or attend MPTCS. We are a free, public charter school.
-
Who is eligible to attend MPTCS?
As per our charter, MPTCS is ONLY open to residents of New Jersey. Children entering Pre-Kindergarten must turn three on or before October 1 of their enrollment year.
-
How can I submit an application?
The initial application window closed on March 6th. The application will re-open on March 13th for Phase 2. You can apply online Click Here
-
How does "sibling preference" work?
Siblings of currently enrolled MPTCS students are given preference for admission over non-sibling applicants. Sibling preference applies to a student who has a sibling already in attendance when they are called off the waitlist. Sibling preference only applies to students who share a common parent through birth or legal adoption and live in the same household. Children who live in separate households are not considered siblings.
-
Can I select which campus my child will attend?
Campus placement is not guaranteed due to space limitations. We do, however, make an effort to “zone” students to the campus closest to their homes. Campus placement will be communicated during the registration process.
-
Are there academic requirements to attend MPTCS?
No. There are no academic prerequisites or entrance examinations to be admitted to MPTCS

Questions About the Waitlist
-
Who is added to the waitlist?
- Students who submit an application are placed on waitlists for schools that they ranked higher than their match school.
- Families who didn’t apply during the application window can apply Click Here
-
How are the waitlists ordered?
- Siblings of current students, in random order.
- Newark residents, in random order.
- Non-Newark residents, in random order.
- Siblings of current students, in random order.
-
When are students called off the waitlist to enroll?
Students on the waitlist are enrolled into our schools as seats become available for the grade in which they have applied. For a seat to become available, a current family must transfer out of our schools. In the event that a current family leaves, we refer to the waitlist and contact families in the order that they appear on the waitlist.
-
How soon will my child be selected from the waitlist?
There is no way to foresee when any child might be selected from the waitlist. Students are called from the waitlist in the order that they are listed as spots open up in the schools. We will call all phone numbers on file when your student comes up on the list.
-
My child is on the waitlist and hasn't been called to enroll. Do I need to reapply every year?
Yes.
Students on the waitlist must reapply every year.
-
Is there "sibling preference" on the waitlist? Why are siblings bumped to the top of the list?
Yes.
Sibling applicants of currently enrolled students are given priority for admission over non-sibling applicants. In the event that there are no available seats, confirmed sibling applicants will be ordered randomly and placed in sequential order based on their randomly assigned number on the top of the waitlist above non-sibling applicants.
